This site is a part of the preparatory work for a dictionary of contempoary Jamaican that I am working on. The dictionry will include Jamaican Creole words (from all areas of life) spanning the last 25 years or so, including youth slang and words which have been created by the Reggae or Dancehall sub-cultures.
I will be posting new and interesting words here regularly and I hope you can help me to identify their meanings and usage and probably their socal contexts. ALL CONTRIBUTORS WILL BE ACKNOWLEDGED IF THEY WISH TO BE IDENTIFIED.
From time to time I will post a report on how the work is proceeding.

I am a postgraduate student, doing work on the drama of the Spanish Renaissance, but I have a grounding in linguistics from my BA at the University of the West Indies. I have a keen interest in Jamaican language(s) and culture and my research into these areas are on-going.
